“Come on, sleepyhead. You’re snoring! This is getting a little embarrassing.”

I blinked open my eyes. Chase was leaning over me and nudging me awake with a poke of his finger to my shoulder.

How could I have fallen asleep? I bolted upright, sitting on the mat. “Jeez. How long was I out?”

He smiled devilishly. “Long enough for me to check out the hem of that robe you’re wearing.”

My face burned bright red as I pulled the robe down to my thighs. “This robe is obscene. I can’t believe I let that quack goad me into wearing it.”

“That robe is damn sexy. Maybe Dr. G. will let us keep it. I can just imagine you wearing it on our wedding night –”

I cut him off before his fantasy got out of hand. “Chase… do I have to remind you that we agreed to -”

He sighed dramatically. “I know. I know. No sex. Ever again… Ever. Got it.”

I looked around the large studio and noticed that we were alone. “Are we done?”

“No. While you were busy sleeping, Dr. G. explained our next exercise.” He paused, then used a voice that mimicked the Dr.’s. “We are going to work on foreplay only. Foreplay is a key to any sexual encounter, for the act of denial will only make you both want more.”

“Oh, great,” I managed.

Chase tapped a stack of notecards that he was holding against the palm of his hand. “He said it was best if we were alone for the next part – to foster more intimacy – or something. Anyway, we’re supposed to do these yoga poses together. He said we should go through this stack and hold each pose for about three minutes each.”

“This robe isn’t exactly conducive to yoga.” I rolled my eyes. “Chase, I don’t think any of this is working – this just seems like a big waste of money.”

“Hey, I was the one who was supposed to have the money hang-up, remember?” he teased. “Besides, whatever Dr. G. did to my ankle – it’s feeling fantastic. I spent thousands of dollars on the best doctors and hours and hours on cutting edge rehab for my ankle, and it’s never felt this good. It feels brand new right now. I don’t even feel that dull tugging ache that I usually feel. It’s amazing!”

I hated to put a damper on his enthusiasm. “It’s probably just a placebo effect. Probably temporary.”

“Whatever it is, I’ll take it. And maybe it’ll work for us too. Even if it’s just a placebo effect.”

I shrugged my doubts. “All right. We might as well get this over with. What do we have to do?”

Grinning like the cat who ate the canary, he handed me the first card. It was entitled ‘Passion Pretzel’. My mouth fell open as I looked at the diagram of the embracing couple, twisted together like a pretzel. Oh hell.

“Don’t get your panties all in a twist,” he mocked. “Dr. G specifically said that we’re not allowed to have sex during this exercise.
